There must be a reason why the words "travel" and "travails" are so similar.
For the past several weeks I've been planning on going to Paris for business. Yes, life as a consultant is sometimes tough. However, as of last night the client has asked to postpone the trip until January. So, with an unexpectedly free week, this morning my manager suggested I head up to Portland next week to help out on a project up there that's just getting started. Cool! Portland's no Paris, but it's a great city to visit.
This evening, after taking a day of vacation to attend to some personal stuff, I come home to a voicemail from my manager asking if instead I could go to NYC to help out on a different project that's in more urgent need of my expertise. Oh, and can I fly out Sunday to be with the customer on Monday? (!)
I love my job and my manager's great, but sometimes knowing where I'm headed next can be, well, challenging.
