Just last night I replaced the last original toner cartridge in my color laser printer, a Lexmark C544dn that I'd purchased right before Christmas 2009. Unfortunately I haven't keep good track of how much paper I've used since then, but I'd have to guess around 1,250 pages. (Yeah, I'm not a heavy volume printer!) The replacement cartridges have run from $80 to $120 depending on the color and when I bought them, so I've paid as much in cartridges as I did for the entire printer. I've been buying the full capacity cartridges, though, which Lexmark calls "Extra Hy" and claim will last 4-6 times as long as the starter cartridges. I've also been participating in their recycling program to get an extra discount on the replacements.
Compared with feeding my prior printer, an Epson R900 color inkjet, I'm pretty happy. Cartridge changes have been an occasional event, whereas it seemed like I was having to replace an inkjet cartridge every month with the Epson. (The Lexmark also gives plenty of warning before the cartridge runs out; for me it gave at least two month's notice.) It's a faster printer, too, and it can do double-sided prints automatically.
So, all in all I'm still quite happy with the C544dn. The only negative I'll note is that it can be downright slow (as in minutes-per-page slow) if I print some documents double-sided—even with the additional printer memory I've added. For the price I really can't complain, and given the volume of printing I do it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I tend to be an impatient person.
Lexmark just release another great product of printers.Another bomb I say. Thanks for updating us on this part.
