Well, this sucks. About two months ago I sent the lab a sample of Red Line 10W-40 oil that I'd used for around 2,500 miles in my KLR650. As of today the lab still has not received it, and in fact they were good enough to send me another sample bottle and mailer for free—i.e. they believe they'll never see the sample. So, I have no idea how well Red Line did (or did not) hold up. The only anecdotal evidence I have is that the shift quality didn't change throughout the oil change interval, but just like the ButtDyno™ this isn't a very reliable measure of how well the oil's doing.
So, I have another crankcase full of Red Line 10W-40 in the bike now and will probably run it for 3,000 miles before dumping it and sending another sample to the lab. Let's hope the USPS can do its job right next time.
