I got the chance to install the new Galfer 320mm wave rotor on the front of my motorcycle (a 1999 Kawasaki KLR650) today, and of course it started pouring down rain just as I was wrapping up. So, no comments from me yet on the difference the new rotor and Galfer Green pads might make. And, as it is supposed to rain most of this coming week, who knows when I'll get to really try them out.
However, I've always been curious as to the difference in weight between the various 320mm (oversized) rotors available. No manufacturer will release that information, for whatever reason, but at least one knowledgeable individual makes a very big deal out of unsprung weight (which the brakes contribute to).
So, for the record, the Galfer wave rotor and carrier weighs 2 lbs, 4.6 oz. The caliper relocation bracket and screws add another 3.9 oz for a total of 2 lbs, 8.5 oz.
For the very curious, my OEM rotor weighed 1 lb, 13 oz and had 3.8mm of thickness left. (Minimum thickness is 3.5mm and I don't know how thick they are when new.) Also, the Dunlopad Pro MX (HH rated) pads I installed about 6,300 miles ago were down to 2.1mm of pad material left. Again, I don't know how thick they started out. (Sorry!)
