I bought this nifty multi-meter from California Sport Touring back in April, but I didn't get around to installing it until a couple of weekends ago. I really liked both the big, illuminated display and that it could be hard-wired into the electrical system. It gave me a clock, a voltmeter, and a temperature gauge all in one—all of which are very handy to have on a motorcycle.
I spent about four hours doing a nice job installing it on my bike. I took off all the bodywork and the fuel tank, ran a new power line from the battery up into the cockpit, soldered every connection, wrapped all the wires in electrical tape, etc. It worked fine for three days, then freaked out while I was starting the bike in the evening to go home. After that, the display was blank while the bike was running, but when the ignition was off it'd come to life and start beeping at me, complaining that the voltage was down around 8 V.
So, this past weekend I removed it from my bike, cursed it, took its picture, then dumped it in the trash, frustrated that I spent so much time for so little reward.
Anyone know of a robust multi-meter?
I installed one of these on my bike and have had no problems. I have had it on for almost two months. The second ride with it was on dirt roads and I got stuck in a down pour. I mounted mine on my handlebar mounts. I have been riding my bike lately everyday and we have been having temps over 100 in the shade. I am very happy with it for now. We will see how long it lasts.
